The Effects of Body Weight Support Treadmill Training on the Walking Function in Hemiparetic Patients with Stroke

Abstract

Objective:To explore the effects of body weight support treadmill training (PBWS) on the walking function in hemiplegic patients with stroke. Method: Fifty-three stroke sufferers were randomly divided into experimental group (26 cases) and control group (27 cases). Both 2 groups received conventional physical therapy (PT). Meanwhile, the patients in experimental group received PBWS. Results: Berg score, Fugl-Meyer score, and Barthel index were increased significantly in two groups after treatment for 8 weeks (P0.05~0.01). All the measures but Fugl-Meyer lower limb score were improved more in experimental group than in control group (P0.05). After therapy 10 m walking speed was increased more in experimental group (P0.05). Conclusion: PBWS can improve the Berg, Barthel and the walking ability of hemiplegic patients with stroke.
