Abstract
Cellulosic biomass is considered one of the most promising feedstock for producing fuel ethanol due to its global availability and environmental benefits. In this paper,on the basis of reviewing the necessity of developing cellulose ethanol in China, the fermentation processes for cellulosic ethanol, including concentrated acid hydrolysis,dilute-acid hydrolysis, cellulase hydrolysis, biomass synthesis gas,and so on,and their advances are introduced.Meanwhile, the analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of each process is provided, and the key problems to be solved of different processes are also discussed. The prospect of industrialization of fuel ethanol production from cellulosic biomass is presented.
