Effect of Body Weight Support Treadmill Training on Hemiplegia Patients after Cerebral Infarction

Abstract

Objective:To explore the effects of body weight support treadmill training(BWSTT) on motor function,walking ability and activities of daily living(ADL) in hemiplegic patients caused by cerebral infarction.Methods:Totally 98 patients were randomly divided into two groups:BWSTT group and control group.In addition to conventional treatment,BWSTT group received BWSTT daily,while the control group was only given conventional treatment.The Functional Ambulation Category(FAC),Fugl-Meyer assessment(FMA)and the Barthel index of ADL were used to assess the treatment effects.Results:The patients in BWSTT group scored significantly in FAC,FMA(P0.01) and the Barthel index(P0.05) than those in the control group.Conclusion: Hemiplegic patients treated by BWSTT improved better with regards to their motor function,walking ability and ADL than those patients treated only with conventional treatment.BWSTT is effective for the hemiplegic patients to improve their quality of life.
