Abstract
Gigabit-capable passive optical networks (GPON) is the best candidate for the next-generation access network. Dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) is the key technology of GPON, which has great significance to improve QoS, reduce packet delay and increase using ratio of the channel. This paper is mainly focused on the DBA schemes of GPON upstream channel. Then a new improved scheme of DBA is proposed based on the analysis of the two existing bandwidth allocation technologies of GPON. The new DBA algorithm has the advantage of high efficiency and guarantee of QoS. We evaluate the performance of the algorithm.
