Abstract
Objective To investigate the effects of sodium ferulate(SF) on rat isolated thoracic aortas. Methods Isometric tension was recorded the reaction that rat aorta and endothelium-denuded aorta response to phenylephrine and high potassium, and the effect of sodium ferulate on rat aorta and de-endothelialized rat aortic diastolic function. Results SF(0.1-30 mmol/L) relaxed the isolated aortic rings precontracted with phenylephrine(PE) and high-K+ in a concentration-dependent manner with respective pD2 of 2.73±0.02 and 2.57±0.06(P 0.05).Mechanical removal of endotheliumdid not significantly modify the SF-induced relaxation. Conclusion These results indicate that SF acts directly as a non-selective relaxant to vascular smoothmuscle.
