CHEN Du-xiu’s Opposition Confucius Thought and the New Culture Movement of May Fourth

Influenced by western learning, the new culture movement of May Fourth reviews and examines the Chinese traditional culture. Its starting point is to construct a new value system, and its theme is to object to restoring old feudalism and to transform the traditional culture. CHEN Do-xiu, as the chief commander and pioneer of the movement, cries out the slogan of “overthrowing the Kong’s shops”. As a cultural radical, his thought of opposing and repelling Confucianists undoubtedly have historical significance and value in that particular historical and cultural background, but it has limitations as well.
