Abstract

Objective To access the histopathologic grade and the prognostic value of the expression of both P53 protein and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) for the epithelial ovarian carcinoma.Method Sixty two cases of epithelial carcinoma were retrospectively reviewd.P53 and PCNA expressions were detected by immunohistochemical staining.Result In well differentiated, moderately differentiated, and poorly differentiated ovarian carcinomas, the frequency of P53 protein positivity was 32% (10/31),65%(8/20),and 73%(8/11) respectively;the frequency of PCNA positivity was 45%(14/31),65%(13/20),and 91%(10/11).The P53 protein,PCNA positivity and expression strength showed a significant statistical difference among the three differentiations (P0.05).Conclusion The expression of P53 protein and PCNA has great values in the histopathologic grading and prognosis of ovarian carcinoma.P53 protein,PCNA expression can be used as a marker for an unfavorable prognosis on ovarian carcinoma.
