Abstract

As the development of the world economy and international trade these years, container transportation with itsadvantage become more and more important in the international trade. On one hand, with the development of large vessel, container transportation reflects the significant effect of economies of scale. On the other hand, due to the imbalance of the global trade in different regions, and the imbalance of container volume and type in each shipping lane, the supply and demand of containers in different regions have huge differences. So the empty container allocation problem comes. This means great waste for economies and shipping companies.According to these situations,in the fierce competition, optimizing empty container transportation system and controlling the cost of empty container allocation become an important way to maximize the profits for each shipping company.
