Abstract
In this paper some hydrological parameters(such as litter reserves, water holding capacities, water absorption rate, and litter interception) of main forest types in the low hills of eastern Anhui were analyzed. The results indicated that the litter reserve under Quercus acutissima forest(8 a),Pinus elliotti forest(24 a),Pinus massoniana forest(14 a) and the natural secondary forests was 21.53 t/hm2,21.34 t/hm2,15.51 t/hm2 and 12.45 t/hm2,respectively.The maximum water holding capacity of the undecomposed litter under the natural secondary forests, the Liquidamba formosana, the Quercus acutissima, the mixed forest of pine and oak,the Pinus elliotti forest and the Pinus massoniana was 315%,275%,249%,175%,174%,and 149% respectively, while for the half-decomposed litter,it was 225%,215%,222%,252%,181% and 183% respectively. The modified interception of 34.48 t/hm2 in the Quercus acutissima forest was the greatest among the forest types, and followed by the natural secondary forests,Pinus elliotti forest(24 a) and Pinus massoniana forest(14 a).This indicated that the broadleaf forest and the mixed broadleaf-conifer forest were obviously better than the conifer forest in the modified interception. As a short-rotation fuel forest, the litter reserve in the three-year-old Quercus acutissima forest stand was less, while in the four-year-old stand it was obviously increased and formed the half-decomposed litter layer. The modified interception in the seven-year-old Quercus acutissima forest stand was greater than that in the Pinus massoniana forest stand(14 a).The litter reserves in the eight-year-old Quercus acutissima forest stands were higher than that in the main forest stands in the local area. Therefore,Quercus acutissima forest was great in soil and water conservation.
