Abstract

Objective: To investigate the clinical significance of poor resolution of ST segment after reperfusion in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) as well as its effect on the long-term prognosis. Methods: Sum of ST segment elevation in infarct-related leads (∑STE) were calculated before and 2 hours after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in 156 cases with AMI. Sum ST (∑STE) after PCI was compared with that before PCI, resolution ≥ 50% was found in 124 patients, those 50% were in 32 patients. Meanwhile, changes of brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) before PCI and 7 days after PCI, incidence of left ventricular remodeling after 1 year were observed. Results: BNP increased in patients with poor resolution of ST segment, and positively related to ventricular remodeling after 1 year. Conclusions: BNP increased significantly in patients with poor resolution of ST segment after AMI reperfusion, and is closely related with the incidence of ventricular remodeling after 1 year. It is an important factor of developing heart failure after AMI.
