Analysis of outbreaks of foodborne disease in Gansu from 2011 to 2013

Abstract

Objective To summarize prevalence pattern and epidemic characteristics of foodborne disease outbreaks in Gansu from 2011 to 2013 so as to decrease the outbreak. Methods Descriptive epidemiology was taken to analyze outbreak data of foodborne disease reported in Gansu Emergent Foodborne Disease Outbreak Reporting System from 2011 to2013. Results Totally 81 foodborne disease outbreaks were reported, with 1 089 cases, 17 dead cases, case fatality rate of1.56%. Most of the events occurred from April to September, with the peak in May, and most poisoning was at home, accounting for 55.55%. Incidents and the incidence of microbial food poisoning were the most, occupying 45.68% and 69.51%,respectively. The number of death caused by toxic chemical food was the most, holding 94.12% of all deaths. Conclusions Outbreaks of microbiological foodborne disease is dominant in Gansu, with the main cause of food poisoning deaths of eating pesticide or poison pollution food by mistake. It is suggested that health education for foodborne disease and the pesticide and rodenticide regulation should be strengthened.
