Study on the endovascular embolization treatment of Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformations

Abstract

Objective: Discussing the outcome of AVM treatment with endovascular embolization. Methods: We reviewed the clinical histories and cerebral angiograms of 195 cases AVM patients. Under digital subtraction angiography (DSA) view procedures, embolizing material were injected into AVMs through microcatheter. Results : We use NBCA as embolic agents mainly. Complete occlusion of AVM nidus were obtained in 32 patients (20%), obkiterated more 75% of AVM were achieved in 41 patients, 50% to 75% of AVMs were obliterated in 56 patients, obliterated less than 50% of AVMs in 48 patients. After embolization , 4 patients appeared with transient neurological deficit, normal perfusion pressure breakthrough (NPPB) occur in 1 patients. The major complications were headache (22 case). Conclusion: Endovascular embolization tratment can be accomplished with less complications and it were identified as the firs choice to treat the AVMs with satisfied therapeutic results.
