Application of Echocardiography in Diagnosis and Therapeutic Effect Evaluation of Pulmonary Hypertension in Newborns

Abstract

Objective To investigate the value of echocardiography(ECHO) in the diagnosis,classification and therapeutic effect evaluation of neonatal pulmonary hypertension.Methods Retrospectively analyzed Echocardiographs and clinical data of 33 neonates with pulmonary hypertension identified by ECHO and free of the right ventricle outflow tract obstruction and pulmonary stenosis.According to the measured pressure value,the patients were divided into mild,moderate and severe groups.Pulmonary hypertension was classified as cardiac and pulmonary by its causes,and the later also divided into transient and persistent pulmonary hypertension.We compared the right ventricular size,the cause of pulmonary hypertension and the changes after treatment in the neonates with pulmonary hypertension.Results There was direct correlation between degree of pulmonary hypertension and size of right ventricle,and the changes in pulmonary artery pressure were consistent with their clinical manifestations.Conclusion ECHO is one of the most important diagnostic methods for the pulmonary hypertension of the neonates.It does not only contribute to the clinical diagnosis and classification,but also has an important role in judging their clinical conditions,choosing the treatment times,assessing the curing effects and evaluating the prognosis.
