Abstract
Objective:To investigate the incidence and mortality of senile dementia in rural area and its relative factors. Method:Following up 2 015 non-dementia elderly people from the prevalence study of senile dementia in 1998 for three years, the incidence and mortality of senile dementia in this sample were investigated. Results:The incidence of senile dementia was 0.4%-0.5%,which was closely related to age, sex, and education. The annual mortality was obviously higher in senile dementia(18.5%) than that in general elderly people (3.0%). Conclusion:The incidence of dementia among elderly population is higher in rural area.It is suggested that some measures be taken to improve service on these people.
