Abstract

The treatment of landfill leachate has been carried out by microwave/Fenton process. The effect of operating conditions such as Fenton's reagent dosage, microwave powers and pH value on UV254 /UV254o was investigated. The experiment results indicate that microwave/Fenton process can effectively remove refractory contaminants under the optimal conditions with H2O2 concentration of 855 mmol/L,Fe2+ concentration of 15 mmol/L,microwave powers of 480 W,pH value of 2.5 and 120 s of microwave reaction time.Meanwhile, the degradation mechanism of landfill leachate by microwave/Fenton process has also been studied. The results show that increasing temperature has a significant improvement for the removal of refractory contaminants.Thermal effects produced by different methods have various effects on degradation of refractory contaminants. The removal rate and efficiency caused by Microwave/Fenton process are higher than that of Microwave process or Fenton reagent. Not only the thermal effect can enhance Fenton reaction, but also electromagnetic effect of microwave has a positive role in degradation of refractory contaminants.
