Abstract

In the transition from the planned economy to the market economy, the strategic development of China's enterprises is characterized with the following facts: first, the cooperation and competition between the enterprises are more market-oriented; second, the developing strategies and approaches employed are more diversified; and third, the development is more dependent on hierarchical organization, rather than an individual entrepreneur' s capability. Operation with high efficiency remains a resource of strategies for China enterprises today, and therefore improvement of the operation efficiency with best management practice has been the main point of strategic management since the 21st century. The improvement of efficiency through organizational learning and technological catch-up will be tomorrow' s main job of strategic management, and its feasibility may come from:first, the mismatch between the competence of foreign competitors and China' s local market; and second, the emergent technological approaches with accelerated technological upgrading.
