A Brief View of Deficiencies of the Scholar-officials in the East Han Dynasty

The East Han Dynasty was a period in which scholar-officials rose as a political group in ancient China.In operative process of politics of imperial power,the scholar-officials in East Han Dynasty failed to adhere to Confucian Criterion,the scholar shall be devoted to and the Tao shall adapt to situation. On contrary,they manifested lots of deficiencies in their conduct,such as loyalty to imperial power,pursuit of personal gains and interests,mingling with worldly desires,weak awareness of social obligation and incompetence in governing country.As a result,they were obligatorily responsible for political decline in late East Han Dynasty.And their deficiencies were attributed to intensification of imperial despotism,the rigidification of Confucianist politics,deficiencies in official employment,and patriarchal and economic shackles.
