Value of three-dimensional CT angiography in diagnosis of intracranial aneurysms

Abstract

Objective To discuss the value of three-dimensional CT angiography(3D-CTA) in diagnosis of intracranial aneurysms.Methods 3D-CTA was performed in 192 cases suspected to have intracranial aneurysms.Postprocessing techniques were used for detecting aneurysm and measuring its size.The results were compared with those of digital subtraction angiography(DSA) and intraoperative findings.Results A total of 163 aneurysms was detected by 3D-CTA in 192 patients.The aneurysm located in the anterior communicating artery accounted for 25.1%,in the anterior cerebral artery for 9.2%,in the middle cerebral artery for 18.4%,in the internal carotid artery for 14.7%,in the posterior communicating artery for 24.5%,in the posterior cerebral artery for 2.5%,in the basilar artery for 4.3%,and in the vertebral artery for 1.2%.The sensitivity and specificity were 92.0% and 94.1%,respectively.Conclusion 3D-CTA as a noninvasive examination can clearly demonstrate the intracranial aneurysms.
