Abstract
In this paper, the principle of a video compression standard named H.264 and the structure of a digital signal processor(DSP) named DM642 are introduced at first, and then a video encoder complied with H.264 standard are implemented based on DM642 DSP platform. With an analysis of several components in H.264 standard, the optimizations of the DSP code are carried out according to the features of the DM642 DSP platform, which can decrease the encoding time and delay efficiently. The experiments show that our design has well performance in quality of the reconstructed video image while keeping a comparatively high compressing ratio.
