Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to explore the anesthetic effect and safety of SLIPA laryngeal mask in anesthesia for orthopedic surgeries for elderly patients. METHODS 72 elderly patients who received orthopedic surgeries in our hospital between January of 2010 and December of 2011 were randomly divided into two groups, including an experimental group( 36 cases) and a control group( 36 cases). The experimental group was anesthetized using the SLIPA laryngeal mask, while the control group was anesthetized by tracheal intubation. Surgical anesthesia-related time parameters,hemodynamic changes in the perioperative period, and complications occurred after removal of laryngeal mask / extubation of the experimental and control groups were observed and compared. RESULTS Operation time and anesthesia time of the two groups were not statistically different( P ﹥ 0.05), and installation of laryngeal mask / intubation time, anesthesia recovery time, and time for postoperative removal of laryngeal mask / extubation of the experimental group were significantly less than those of the control group( P ﹤ 0.05); Systolic blood pressure( SBP), diastolic blood pressure( DBP), and heart rate(HR) at time of installation / intubation( T1), 3 min after installation / intubation( T2), time of removal / extubation( T4),and 3 min after removal / extubation(T5) of the experimental group were significantly steadier than those of the control group( P ﹤ 0.05); and the incidence of complications occurred after removal of laryngeal mask / extubation, such as hypoxemia,cough, nausea and vomiting, sore throat, and dysphoria, of the experimental group was significantly smaller than that of the control group( P ﹤ 0.05). CONCLUSION SLIPA laryngeal mask is effective for surgical anesthesia for elderly orthopedic patients.
