Abstract
Objective To study the association between fat mass and obesity associated gene(FTO) polymorphisms,rs62048402 and rs9939609 and obesity-related variable. Methods This study was conducted in 2 030 students aged 7- 18 years in Beijing. Genotyping of rs62048402 was performed with matrix assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight mass spectrometry(MALDI-TOF-MS),while rs9939609 was genotyped with tetra-primer amplification refractory mutation system analysis(ARMS- PCR). The associations between the two polymorphisms and BMI,waist circumference,waist-hip ratio and waist-height ratio were analyzed. Results After age-and sex-specific Z score transformation for BMI,waist circumference,waist-hip ratio and waistheight ratio, the coefficients( S. E.) between rs62048402 and these indexes were 0. 093(0. 046),0. 094(0. 046),0. 087(0.046),0. 102(0. 046),respectively. The coefficients( S. E.) between rs939609 and these indexes were 0. 095(0. 045),0. 099(0.045),0.095(0.045),0.103(0.045),respectively. Conclusion FTO polymorphisms are correlated with BMI,waist circumference,waist-hip ratio and waist-height ratio in Chinese children and adolescents. The effects of two polymorphisms on waistheight ratio are larger than those on other measurements.
