Trends and determinants of China’ s hi-tech industrial agglomeration degree--take manufacture of electronic and communication equipment for example

This paper studies the overall time trend of agglomeration degree of China's manufacture of electronic and communication equipment using Hoover index,spatial Gini coefficient and EG index.Besides,this paper explores the causes of industrial agglomeration using the provincial panel data model.The main findings are:(1)The agglomeration degree of China's manufacture of electronic and communication equipment is quite high since 1990s middle.Meanwhile,its growth trend shapes inverted U curve.(2)The agglomeration regional distribution is sharply unbalanced in East-Middle and West region dimensions in China.Regional economic polarization is serious and its tendency is intensified.(3)Coastal areas have geographical advantages of industrial development.Infrastructure construction,market scale,human capital,economic open and the weakening of governmental role promote industrial agglomeration.Besides,the results of compositive analysis indicate that market scale,economic open and the weakening of governmental role are the key factors impacting the industrial agglomeration.
