Abstract

In order to investigate the effect of different seed sludge on the aerobic sludge granulation, three kinds of floc sludge which were taken from industrial park sewage treatment plant, urban sewage treatment plant and laboratory aerobic granular sludge reactor were used as seed sludge in three reactors. After 50 days of incubation, aerobic granular sludge was successfully cultured in all of the three reactors,SVI values are up to 43 mL/g,48 mL/g and 46 mL/g,and the average particle diameters are 0.43 mm,0.42 mm and 0.40 mm,respectively. The results also show that the sludge from industrial park sewage treatment plant contains a large number of particulate matters such as inorganic or inert carriers, which can accelerate the formation of aerobic granular sludge.During the formation of granular sludge, there is no classic framework hypothesis, which indicates that filamentous bacteria are not the necessary condition for the formation of granular sludge.
