Interaction between Constructions and the Lexical Items Which Instantiate Them:Representation of Constructions

Construction Grammar maintains that constructions are independent of the lexical items which instantiate them.This view has supported the idea that syntax is an autonomous system,and therefore is contradicted with the basic principles of cognitive grammar.This paper,based on the psycholinguistic illustrations of the interface between lexicon and syntax,argues that the meaning of a construction is derived from the lexical items of that construction,but the derivation has experienced several cognitive transformations and been represented in the lexical entries of the main word of the construction.
