Abstract
To assess the pollution of heavy metals and metalloid in soil along road The sampling of soil was done along the section of No 319 National Rood located in the Xinluo district of Longyan city The levels of heavy metals (Cd,Pb,Cu,Zn,Ni and Cr) and metalloid (As)in soil samples were determined by atomic adsorption spectrophotometry and spectrophotometry The synthetic index of soil pollution was 1 63 in observed area The soil samples were highly polluted by Cd and Pb,and slightly polluted by Cu and Cr Two zonal pollution areas were distributed along the both sides of the road with a width of 250 m The adsorptive capacity of soil to heavy metals and metalloid and its pollution levels were in the following orders:CdPbCuCrZnNiAs [Conclusion]The possible main sources of soil pollution were the trace heavy metals in exhaust fume and tires of automobiles running on the road
