Comparison of the Effects of Recurrent Pterygium Treated by Two Kinds of Surgical Methods

Aim To compare the therapeutic effects of recurrent pterygium treated by biological amniotic membrane transplantation and limbal stem cells auto graft transplantation.Methods One hundred and fifteen cases(168 eyes) with recurrent pterygium were random1y divided into biological amniotic membrane transplantation group(56cases,82eyes) and limbal stem cells auto graft transplantation group(59cases,86eyes).The post operative follow-up periods were6to12months.Results The average epithelial recovering time cornea1 wound was 5.9 days,and3.2days,respectively,the difference was statistical significant(P0.01).Recurrence of 23 eyes were noted in biological amniotic membrane transplantation group,the recurrent rate was 28.05%however recurrence of 8 eyes was noted in limbal stem cells auto graft transplantation group,the recurrent rate was 9.30%There was statistical significant difference between two groups(P0.05).Conclusion Limbal stem cells auto graft transplantation can improve epithelial recovering time of corneal wound,decrease the recurrent rate,it is an idea1 method ferreting the recurrent pterygium and is worth to spreading.
