"Accumulated Bewilderment of Some Dozen Years Comes to Be Overcome":Postscript to Mr.Meng Wen tong's To Zhang Biaofang

Mr.Meng devoted his life to traditional Chinese learning,particularly in Confucianism.But the problems presented in history from Confucius to Song and Ming scholars that he had tried to resolve during the long time did not come to light until he studied works of Marx and Engles after 1949.Therefore,he wrote to his friend,[a]ccumulated bewilderment of some dozen years comes to be overcome. The letter not only reflects Meng's continuous effort to keep up with the time,but also provides a valuable document in early People's Republic for the historical studies of academic circle.It proves that a group of upright well-educated intellectuals indeed have widened their horizon after consciously studying history of materialism.
