Abstract

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of retrorse excision of pterygium with fold conjunctival flap and bridge-like conjunctival flap implantation for treatment of pterygium, to approach the method to reduce postoperative recurrence rate. Methods 60 eyes of pterygium were divided randomly into two groups: retrorse excision of pterygium with fold conjunctival flap and bridge-like conjunctival flap implantation (A group, 30eyes),and simple pterygium excision (B group, 30eyes). All the patients were followed up for 6~12 months. After surgery, we observed the difference of the postoperative healing time of corneal epithelium and the pterygium recurrence rate. Results 2 of 30 eyes(6.67%) in A group and 8 of 30 eyes (26.67%)in B group were recurred, the difference was very significant(P0.05). The contrast of the postoperative healing time of corneal epithelium between group A and B was no significance, P0.05. Conclusions Retrorse excision of pterygium with fold conjunctival flap and bridge-like conjunctival flap implantation can prevent the recurrence of pterygium. It's a reasonable therapeutic method for the treatment and recurrence of pterygium.
