Abstract

Objective To compare the sedative effect of sufentanil and fentanyl in emergence agitation after thoracotomy. Methods Forty two patients undergoing selective thoracic surgery were randomly divided into fentanyl group and sufentanil group.Fentanyl and sufentanil were used 10 min before the end of surgery in each group. The time points when spontaneous breathing recover, eye open, extubation and out of PACU were recorded.Ramsay sedation score and agitation score while extubating,3 min after extubation, out of PACU were carried out and analyzed. Results Ramsay sedation score of sufentanil group was higher than that of fentanyl group, while emergence agitation score of the sufentanil group was lower than that of fentanyl group. Conclusion Emergence agitation can be reduced significantly when sufentanil was used before the end of thoracic surgery, and this is helpful to the recover of patients and can decrease the postoperative complication.
