Abstract

AIM: To evaluate the sealing ability of syringe delivery iodoform-calcium hydroxide(ICH) as a root canals sealer. METHODS: 49 teeth with pulp periodontal syndrome which would be extracted were randomly divided into four groups. The teeth of A and A1 group were filled with paste of A ICH, while the teeth of B and B1 groups were filled with zinc oxide-eugenol paste. Apical microleakage was determined by dye infiltration and stereomicroscopy. RESULTS: The mean leakage was 1.08mm in A group, 1.18mm in B group. There was no significant difference bwtween A and B. But 3 months later, there was significant diference between A1 and B1. The mean leakage was 3.05mm in group A1. CONCLUSION: ICH has less tooth canal sealing ability than that of zinc oxide-eugenol paste after root canal filling after a long time. ICH cannot serves as a permanent root canal filling material.
