Abstract
Objective To study the clinical characteristics of patients with hepatic echinococcosis in Tibet and evaluate the effect of different surgical modes. Methods The information of 526 hepatic echinococcosis patients who were confirmed by operation was retrospectively analyzed, including the clinical characteristics of these patients, the different surgical modes, the effect and complications of surgeries. Results All patients accepted successful operation and there was no intraoperative death. However 32 patients experienced biliary fistula(8. 28%) and recurrence happened among 12 patients(2. 28%). Eighteen cases were postoperatively infected in incision(3. 42%). The average duration of hospitalization was 23. 0 ± 8. 6 days. Conclusion The incidence of hepatic echinococcosis in Tibet was mainly concentrated in the pastoral areas of northern Tibet. Surgeries were the main and effective treatment method for this disease. Patients shared low incidences of complications and recurrences after surgeries. All in all, surgeries can significantly improve the life quality of patients with hepatic echinococcosis.
