On the Cultural View of Chinese and Western of Qu Qiubai

In the course of Chinese cultural modernization of the modern times, the confrontation between the Chinese and western cultures is always the historical focus of attention. Since the May 4th Movement, Qu Qiubai in his youth adopted Marxist standpoint and methodology and sought to find out the origin of the difference between the oriental and western cultures with the cultural intension as his starting point. Based on his analysis of the cultural difference and the advantages and disadvantages of each culture, Qu suggested that we should take a right approach to the cultural heritages. He also emphasized building up and developing the proletarian and socialist new culture by means of revolution. This theoretical insight is not only a contribution to the development of human culture but also serves as a guideline for the development of the Chinese new culture ever since the May 4th Movement.
