Abstract

【Objective】The purpose of this project aims to compare the roles of the two halophytes: Saueda salsla and Salicornia Europaea in removing salinity from saline soil and clarify the effect on soil salinity reduction.【Method】Field experiment.【Result】Our results indicated that the amount of salinity that can be removed by biotic process of Saueda salsla and Salicornia Europaea was about 2,116 kg / hm2and 1,380 kg / hm2. Data showed that soil salinity content in depth of 0- 30 cm was decreased by about 21. 6% in July and October compared with saueda salsla planted in April. The soil salinity content in bare soil was decreased by 11. 4%,less than that of the soil covered by halophyte crop. Soil salinity content at the depth of 30- 60 cm beneath salicornia Europaea was decreased by about 38. 9% in July and October compared with that in April, which was 24. 9% lower than that of the bare soil.【Conclusion】Saueda salsla can remove more salinity from saline soil than of Salicornia europaea and it can also reduce more soil salinity in surface soil( 0- 30cm). But Salicornia europaea has predominance in reducing soil salinity at the depth of 30- 60 cm.
