Abstract
Objective To evaluate the therapeutic results of exogenous endophthalmitis. Methods 26 cases (26 eyes) with exogenous endophthalmitis were retrospectively reviewed. Intravitreal injection or vitrectomy was performed on them according to the varying degree of intraocular im-flammation. Results The follow-up time ranged from 4 months to 32 months( mean, 7 months). Intraocular inflammation was controlled in 25 eyes(96.2%); retina remained attached in 22 eyes (84. 6% ). Visual acuity improved in 20 eyes(76.9% ) .unchanged in 3 eyes(ll .5% ),decreased in 3 eyes( 11.5%). Retinal detachment occurred in 7 eyes post-operatively, among which 4 eyes' retina reattached after a second operation . Conclusion Intravitreal injection or/and virtectomy are effective methods for exogenous endophthalmitis. Vitrectomy should be performed immediately in uncontrolled imflammation eye.
