Blooming characeristics in clonal seed orchard of Pinus armandii

The strobili blooming in clone seed orchard of Pinus armandii in Chuxiong Yunnan province were studied.The results were as follows.There were great differences in the average blooming phenology among clones.The male strobili opened earlier 2-4 days.There were significant differences of flower yield among clones.Pinus armandii had different female and male tendency.Female and male strobili spatial distribution within crowns was different.Most of female strobili were on the outer side of the crown,while the male strobili were mainly on weak branches inside of the crown.Horizontally,male strobili had a balanced distribution on four directions of crown,while female ones were in the south rather than in the west.Vertically,male strobili mainly scattered over the middle-lower part of crowns,while the female strobili were mostly in the middle-upper part.The production of male strobili had a significant correlation with the growth of plant,but it was not that of female.
