Comparative Study of Severe Knee Fibroarthrosis Underwent Arthroscopic and Open Surgery

Objective To investigate the possibility and superiority of arthroscopic release of severe knee arthrofibrosis. Methods The clinical results of a series of 25 patients who had severe knee range of motion restriction treated by probe adhesion release with arthroscopy were compared with another series of 22 cases treated by open procedure. Results The range of motion in the arthroscopic group were improved from 55.68°to 110.4°at the time of discharge, with an average of 54.7°(P 0.01). The duration for hospitalization and operation, and the amount of bleeding and drainage were significantly reduced in the arthroscopic group compared with those undergone open procedure(P 0.01). Conclusion Arthroscopic release of knee arthrofibrosis is a safe and efficient procedure, with less complication, wide indication and good outcome.
