Abstract
Objective To explore the efficacy and safety of greenlight photoselective vaporization of prostate(PVP) in high-risk older patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH).Methods A total of 30 high-risk older patients with BPH underwent PVP.The operative time, blood loss, indwelling catheterization and operative complications were observed. The variables such as IPSS,QOL,uroflowmetry, postvoid residual urine volume(RUV) were recorded and calculated pre-and post-operatively.Results All the 30 patients safely got through perioperative period. The operative time was 30-90 min, postoperative indwelling catheterization was 24-48 h.The mean MFR increased from 8.2ml/s to 19.8 ml/s(2 weeks later),19.2 ml/s(4 weeks later). The mean IPSS and QOL values decreased from 23.9 and 4.2 to 8.9 and 1.4(2 weeks later),8.5 and 1.4(4 weeks later)respectively. The mean RUV decreased from 50.8 ml to 10.5 ml.There were few complications and great patients satisfaction with the short-term postoperative results. Conclusion The PVP is a safe, efficacious and minimally invasive procedure for older patients with high-risk BPH.It is easier to manipulate with advantages of shorter operative time, less blood loss, better tolerance and rapid recovery.
