The clinical application of fascia ligament of orbital muscle for blepharoplasty

Objective To introduce an operative method for lowers eyelid blepharoplasty using fascia ligament of orbital muscle and its clinic effect. Methods The fascia ligament of orbital muscle locate between the peripheral one-third of the orbicularis oculi muscle and the outer one-quarter periost of the periosteum of the infraorbital margin was dissected out during performance of lower eyelid blepharoplasty, and then it was fixed on the outer canthus ligament. Results The skin of lower eyelid which was removed by using the metnod above was 5mm greater than that removed by using the operation generally in use. All 28 cases were satisfied with the aesthetic results with less apparent lower eyelid wrinkle and raised orbit tissue. The effect of the operation was similar to the operation of using fascia ligament of orbital muscle for lowers eyelid blepharoplasty which uses orbital periosteum for a sling. Conclusion The operation of using fascia ligament of orbital muscle for lowers eyelid blepharoplasty was a brief and good operative method for treating lower eyelids sag.
