Effect of Injection Timing on Low Temperature Combustion Fuelled by Diesel and a Blend of Diesel and Gasoline

Abstract

Pure diesel and a blend of diesel and gasoline are employed in the low temperature combustion mode with injection timing as an adjustable parameter.Results show that these two fuels possess a two-stage combustion process.For a given fuel injection timing,two test fuels produce similar start of low temperature heat release,while the start of high temperature heat release of diesel/gasoline blend is later than that of pure diesel fuel.The main combustion phases are linearly correlated,regardless of the fuel types.Diesel/gasoline blend has the potential to improve NOx and PM emissions but leads to increased combustion instability.
