A New Textual Research On TAO Yuanming's XingbuJieyin(性不解音)

In the TAO Yuanming' biographies of the Song Shu(history of the Liu Song),the Jin Shu(history of the Jin) and the Nan Shi(history of the Southern Dynasties),there were records about Tao's BujieYinsheng(不解音声),or XingbuJieyin(性不解音).But his poems showed that Tao was a master of music,especially the artist of Guqin.This contradiction has always been explained by scholars is that history records were wrong.This paper,on the basis of Taoist music, has drawn a clear conclusion that what Tao had not understood was the Elegant Voice of Lingbao Section.In other words,Tao had mastered the secular music of Guqin,rather than religious music.
