Abstract

USB(Universal Serial Bus) is an up-to-date interface standard of computer peripherals, with some advanced features such as PnP(Plug and Play), easy extensibility and high data rate. USB protocols are very complicated, which make it very difficult to develop USB devices. This paper first presents generic performance and characteristics of USB, then gives a brief introduction to systematic architecture, communication model, mechanical procedures, electrical properties and device structures of USB, and summarizes a general process to develop USB devices. USB chips are also briefly related.
