Abstract

Objective To characterize the histologic types of esophageal cardiac cancer from endoscopic screening in high risk areas. Methods A endoscopic screening with Lugol's staining was carried out in Ci County from December 2001 to May 2002,and the data were input to the computer and handled by SPSS 10 0.Results The histologic detecting rates of mild esophagitis, moderate esophagitis, severe esophagitis in esophagus were 34 9%,1 6% and 0 2% respectively. The histologic detecting rates of basel cell hgperpl asia, mild dysplasia, moderate dysplasia, severe dysplasia in esophagus were 0 9%, 8 6%,7 8% and 2 6% respectively. The histologic detecting rates of carcinoma in situ, intramucosal carcinoma,Invasive squamous carcinoma in esophagus were 2 5%,0 2% and 0 7% respectively. The histologic detecting rates of non atrophic gastritis, atrophic gastritis in cardia were 36 3% and 11 5% respectively. The histologic detecting rates of mild dysplasia, severe dysplasia in cardia were 2 5% and 0 8% respectively. The histologic detecting rates of intramucosal adenocarcinoma, invasive adenocarcinoma in cardia were 0 1% and 0 8% respectively. The early detecting rate of esophageal cancer was 79 4%.The screening rate was 73 8%.Conclusions This study will contribute to early treatment of esophageal cardiac cancer and dysplasia, increasing the cure rates of esophageal cardiac cancer and decreasing the incidence rates and death rates of esophageal cardiac cancer.
