Abstract
Objective To understand the situation of rotavirus infection in infantile diarrhea in Qingdao. Methods Fresh excreta samples of 5 525 infants with diarrhea were collected and group-A rotavirus was detected by group-A rotavirus diagnostic kit. Results Of the 5 525 samples studied,1 448 were detected with group-A rotavirus, the positive rate being 26.2%.The high-incidence age was 6-month to 2-year-old,with the positive rate of 84.5%.The infection rate in male infants was 26.8% versus 25.0% in the female.Seasonally, from December to February, total infection rate of rotavirus A was 42.9%,significantly higher than that in the other months(15.4%)(χ2=515.50,P0.01).Conclusion The rotavirus infection is one of main causes for infantile diarrhea. The epidemic is of obviously seasonal, the crest-time being late autumn to early spring.Attention should be paid to the detection of pathogen for 6-month to 2-year-old infants with diarrhea to avoid misdiagnosis and mistreatment.
