Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of mydriasis and anesthesia of lidocaine after intracameral injection during cataract phacoemulsification. Methods One handred cases(100 eyes)with senile cataract were rardomly divided into two groups(lidocaine group and routine group).Pupil diameter, anesthesia effect, visual acuity, corneal endothelial cell density and other complications were recorded. Results Pupil diameters during operation in two groups were (7.25±0.45 ) mm and(7.44±0.58) mm,and which in post-operation was (2.58±0.60 ) mm and(2.55±0.56) mm respectively. The visual acuity at 1 day postoperatively in lidocaine group:12 cases were 0.5~0.7,31 cases were 0.7~1.0,7 cases were 1.0;Routine group:13 cases were 0.5~0.7,29 cases were 0.7~1.0,8 cases were 1.0.The corneal endothelial cell loss rate was(5.92±1.48)% and(5.47±1.25)% respectively. In comparison of the pupil diameter, visual acuity, and corneal endothelial cell loss, there was no statistically significant difference between two groups(P0.05).But the difference was statistically significant on anesthesia effect (P0.05),lidocaine group was better. Conclusion During phacoemulsification, intracameral injection of lidocaine provides rapid, effective mydriasis and anesthesia. It is safe to use in clinic.
