Abstract

With a retrospect of Western ethnomusicology as a contrast,especially its diverse orientations since the 1980s,the essay based on a reflection on the experience of practice of ethnomusicology,proposes that the 20th century saw a transition in Chinese traditional music research,as shown in such periods as a return to Chinese music tradition,history reconstruction,folk material collection and application in composition,analysis of morphology,and cultural cognition.
