The Combination of "Applications of Tsaoism to the Rule of a country" and the Thought of Lao Zi ——A Dissection of Wei Yuan's Lao Zi Ben Yi

Abstract

Wei Yuan expounded thought of Lao Zi in terms of principle of applications of Tsaoism to rule of a country and regarded Lao Zi as the book which can be used to rescue world. He studied further social and political values of Lao Zi by elaborating on such categories as take action, no desire, compassion, restraint and unimportance and small community with a few people, showing his strong suffering consciousness and rescuing world.These are superior to thought of Lao Zi and opened a new stage of modern thought of Taoist studies.
