The paper explains the definition,characteristics,contents and function of geographic information system(GIS),summarizes the application examples of GIS in public health field,concretely including health supervision and administration,disease surveillance and epidemiological research,etc.It also thinks about GIS software selection,so as to promote GIS technology play a more significant role in health informatization construction.
