Abstract

The application of four methods of arterial blood gas measurements i.e.,methodsof the actual base, the base excess, the predicted compensatory equation and thecombined method of anion gap,in 587 cases were reported.Data of various methodsof blood gas analysis showed only slight differences between the results fromactual base and predicted compensatory equation methods and larger differences be-tween that from the base excess methods and others.Difficulties existed in the diffe-rential diagnosis between metabolic acidosis, metabolic acidosis with respiratory al-kalosis and respiratory alkalosis. It is suggested that combined diagnostic methodof anion gap findings is valuable in detecting triple acid-base disorders and othercomplicated conditions.
