A Commentary of the Three Major Schools of English Grammar

Abstract

English grammar has gone through several stages and many grammar schools have appeared,among which traditional grammar,structural grammar and transformational-generative grammar are the most influential.These three major grammar theories have their own strong points and weaknesses.They each have greatly contributed and will continue to contribute to linguistic studies and development.
