A Metonymy and Metaphor-based Study of HAND Fan Hui,Gongxue,Daiweiping

As fundamentally different cognitive devices, metonymy and metaphor are two important methods to vocabulary expanding. Metonymy basically involves using a special property of something or its special relationship with other things to refer to it, while metaphor is created to understand a relatively less well-known domain of things in terms of things from relatively better-known domains. The attempt of this paper is to analyze the meaning of handfrom the perspective of cognitive metonymy and cognitive metaphor.
